Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Prepare Your Fabric

Start by washing and ironing your fabric to ensure it’s clean and wrinkle-free. This provides a smooth surface for cutting and sewing.

Step 2: Measure and Cut

Measure your cushion insert and add an extra inch to each side for seam allowance. Use these measurements to cut two square pieces of fabric.

Step 3: Create the Grid Pattern

To make a cushiongrid pattern, measure and mark equal intervals along the fabric using a fabric marker. Align your ruler with the marks, drawing lines to form a grid. This will act as your guide for sewing the pattern.

Step 4: Sew the Grid

Sew along the lines you marked to create the grid pattern. You can use a straight stitch for a clean finish. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end to secure your stitches.

Step 5: Assemble the Cushion Cover

Place the two fabric pieces with right sides facing each other. Pin them together to prevent shifting. Sew around the edges, leaving a small gap for turning and inserting the cushion.

Step 6: Add the Border

For a decorative touch, sew a border around the edges of your cushion. Cut strips of fabric for the border, fold, and press. Attach the border strips around the edges of your cushion cover, sewing them in place.

Step 7: Turn and Finish

Turn the cushion cover right side out through the gap. Use a blunt tool to push out the corners for a neat finish. Insert the cushion filling and close the gap by hand-sewing with a blind stitch.
